Swansea University’s College of Engineering continues to maintain its position as one of the top colleges in the UK. Now based at the university’s new beachfront Bay Campus, which has seven buildings dedicated to engineering, the college has over 30,000m2 of laboratory and office space and over £10 million of new research and teaching equipment.
Our pioneering research is currently ranked 10th in the UK according to the recent Research Excellence Framework (REF) in 2014, with 94% of research produced by academic staff classified as of world-leading or internationally excellent quality.
We collaborate with multi-national, small and medium-size businesses (SMEs) and public and third sector organisations, which provides great opportunities for students in both research and employment.
Through our range of postgraduate study opportunities, from taught to research degrees in a variety of disciplines, both traditional and emerging, our aim is for postgraduate students to develop the potential to become future leaders and champions of industry or to be equipped to meet the challenges and opportunities for a career in research.
Current postgraduate Dan Butcher, who is currently completing an Engineering Doctorate with Renishaw, says:
'I chose Swansea University for two reasons—firstly, it’s a fantastic place to live. You’ve got the beach right outside the campus and there are a lot of places of outstanding natural beauty, like the Gower and Mumbles and a lot of hills for mountain biking. Then, on a secondary front, it’s a great place to study and research with amazing facilities, plus, you get the opportunity to work with researchers who are world-leading in what they’re doing—it’s an opportunity that you’d struggle to find anywhere else.'
With our world-class research centres and a sustained investment programme to provide outstanding resources and facilities, the College of Engineering provides a superb environment in which to study or conduct research.
