Study at USI Università della Svizzera italiana
Founded in 1996, USI Università della Svizzera italiana (which means: University of Italian Switzerland) is a member of the public Swiss university system together with nine other cantonal universities and two Federal Institutes of Technology. USI comprises five Faculties: Architecture on the Mendrisio campus; Biomedical Sciences, Communication Sciences, Economics, and Informatics on the Lugano campus.
The study curricula of all five Faculties comply with the European university system: three years of study for the Bachelor’s degree, followed by two years for the Master’s degree.
In a country that consists of three linguistic areas (German, French and Italian), USI offers a very international study environment, with its large choice of Masters taught entirely in English. Located in the Italian-speaking part of the country in its South, USI stands out in the Swiss academic landscape for its original teaching programmes. With more than half of its students and professors coming from abroad, USI has grown into a multilingual academic institution with great international breadth.
USI is active in many innovative fields of research and participates in numerous national and international research networks. Fostering exchange and contact with the professions and its alumni, USI provides its graduates with career guidance, ensuring a smooth transition to the workplace. USI’s small size, its positive teacher-to-students ratio, the integration of different disciplines and top-quality technical and IT infrastructure make up the ideal conditions for study and research.
The USI Career Service fosters exchange and contacts with the business world to ensure a smooth and successful transition from the academic world to the workplace.
