The University of Siena is one of the oldest universities in Italy and Europe, founded in 1240.
The history of the University of Siena has evolved alongside Tuscany’s cultural tradition since the Middle Ages.
Siena is located in the heart of Tuscany amid a landscape of gentle rolling hills.

Rankings and Accreditations
With over 17,000 students, the University of Siena was classified first in the whole of Italy for its structures, quality of services, internet access, study grants and internationalisation (Censis Research Institute classification).
In 2016, the University of Siena improved its position against other Italian universities, in the ranking drawn up by the main Italian financial newspaper, Il Sole 24 Ore.
It is also among the top 500 universities in the world according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016.
According to the QS World University Rankings by subject, the University of Siena is in high standing on the national and international level in one area and six subjects (Area of Life Science and Medicine, Archaeology, Linguistics, Medicine, Pharmacy and pharmacology, Economics and statistics, Political science and international studies).
A Strong International Mission
Over the years, the University of Siena has enhanced its strategy for internationalisation, aiming to attract students and researchers from all parts of the world.
The University of Siena runs first and second level degree courses taught in Italian and/or English.
Students can also choose from a wide selection of postgraduate courses, including doctoral degree programmes, specialisation schools and advanced training courses, the latter being designed to offer specific training in the most innovative sectors.
Some of our degrees are taught partially or entirely in English (2 Bachelor's, 14 Master's) and Double Degree agreements have been set up.
