Undergraduate Profile: Goldsmiths University

Founded in 1891, and part of the University of London since 1904, Goldsmiths offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate study options in the arts, humanities, social sciences, cultural studies, computing, and entrepreneurial business and management.

Former Goldsmiths students are shaping the socio-cultural landscape on a global scale and include fashion designers, composers, published authors, broadcasters, journalists, policy advisers and entrepreneurs.

Goldsmiths offers a range of accommodation options – whether you prefer the supported environment of halls of residence on or near campus, or more independent living that lets you mix with a wider London student population.

We offer self-catered accommodation with single occupancy rooms within an easy commute of the campus; many halls are within walking distance of Goldsmiths. Some studio flats are also available. Staff are on hand 24/7.

Facilities

Our single site campus means you won’t have to wander far to get to some impressive facilities – from a 24/7 Library with open-access computers with the latest software.

Our Library has been ranked in the UK’s top 20 for facilities and open hours (2014 Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey). It’s open 24 hours a day during term time, and has lots of space for individual and group study. As a Goldsmiths student, you can also borrow books from the University of London Library, Senate House and from other institutions within the University of London.

Department of Art: studio space and research labs for casing, constructed textiles, fine art printmaking, media research, metal, photography, print and dye, stitch and fabric, and woodwork.

Department of Design: workshops with the latest digital equipment, computing suites and studio space.

Department of Media and Communications: photography, radio and TV studios as well as the latest digital video and audio editing equipment, ENPS (essential news production system) facilities, animation and image manipulation software and hardware.

Location

Goldsmiths is based in New Cross, an area that’s been described by The New York Times as a hub of creative talent. It’s in zone 2, (Central London is zone 1), and about five minutes by train from London Bridge. It’s only 15 minutes by Overground train from the nightlife of East London.
