About Globally Speaking

Globally Speaking is a language school and Cambridge exam centre with a highly qualified, enthusiastic team. It runs foreign language and teacher training courses in its lovely modern premises near the centre of Rome. The positive, relaxed environment creates the perfect atmosphere for a challenging yet gratifying training experience.

Italy boasts the largest number of UNESCO world heritage sites and is home to over half of the world's greatest art treasures. No city in the world equals the history of Rome, the Eternal City, founded 2700 years ago. It is an open-air museum just waiting to be discovered.

Globally Speaking was founded in 2013 in the residential Balduina neighbourhood, just a 10-minute bus ride from the Vatican City. The school is well connected with public transport (bus 913/Metro A) to all areas of the city. Its location gives trainees the possibility to enjoy the wonders of Rome during their stay.

The Globally Speaking CELTA Course

Cambridge English Language Assessment Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults is the practical English language teaching qualification. Our expert tutors will help you gain essential knowledge, hands-on teaching experience and classroom confidence for a successful teaching career.

Cambridge CELTA is accredited level 5 on the UK National Qualifications Framework and is recognized by employers of English Language Teachers globally. According to a recent OECD survey, there is a global shortage of English teachers - 72.4% of EFL job advertisements require CELTA.

CELTA courses are suitable for trainees with and without teaching experience. Applicants should have a high level of English at CEFR C1 / C2 level and will be asked to complete a written task before being invited to interview.

Our full-time course lasts 4 weeks with over 120 contact hours which include at least 6 hours observation of experienced teachers and 6 hours of assessed teaching practice. Candidates will need to dedicate an additional minimum of 80 hours for the required reading, research, pre- and post-session tasks, assignments and lesson preparation. Lessons run from Monday to Friday 10.00 – 17.30.

Before you are invited for interview, you will be asked to complete a written task. This will include a focus on language awareness as well as consideration of other issues related to teaching English. If this written task shows that you have the appropriate level of English and the potential to develop the skills needed to pass the course, you will be invited to interview.

The CELTA course includes 5 main topics:

     1.   Learners and teachers, and the teaching and learning context
     2.   Language analysis and awareness
     3.   Language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing
     4.   Planning and resources for different teaching contexts
     5.   Developing teaching skills and professionalism.

There are 4 written assignments on the CELTA course, which focus on:

     •   analysing and responding to learner needs
     •   analysing language for teaching purposes
     •   teaching language skills
     •   reflecting on classroom teaching.

Assessment takes place throughout the course. Candidates submit a portfolio of all coursework including 4 written assignments and materials related to teaching practice.
